We have been enjoying beautiful late summer weather. After a cold and rainy summer in Iowa this is much appreciated! Grandma and Grampy Harris have been here visiting for the last week and we will be sad to have them leave. Henry has had lots of special time with them....they have been spending hours upon hours at different parks, playing in the sand and meeting new friends.

Henry is soooo lucky to be living close to four grandparents!!! We do wish that Grandma Wendy and Grampy Doug lived closer. Henry has been lucky enough to spend lots of time with Elizabeth lately....going to the pool, having lunch with Grandpa, day trips to Cedar Rapids, and just hanging out. Thanks Elizabeth!!

Sorry for the long lapse in updates! Time is flying, and Henry is growing. He is now just over nine months old. It's almost time to start thinking about his first birthday party! He is still the happy little guy, always smiling and laughing. He is funny to watch. He loves his bubble baths, playing with Gus, going on walks outside when it's halfway warm out, and reading books.

Nine month stats:
weight: 24 1/2 lbs (94%)
length: 29 1/2 inches (90%)

As you can see, he is rounding out nicely. He went from the 97% (at his sixth month visit) to the 94% for weight, but I don't think we should be worried yet :)

Henry loves wagon rides. Daddy likes to push him around the house in the wagon. Soon we will be able to do this outside!

Look at my teeth! Still no top teeth, but they are coming soon.

With temperatures of -20 below zero and 7 inches of snow this week, Henry and I have hunkered down and not left the house for days. We have been playing, reading books, napping, and watching movies. I am starting to get a little stir crazy and am looking forward to going to work tomorrow night. I am sure I will miss this low-key week once school starts next week and I get busy with my three classes (plus work).

Henry's First Christmas

Christmas was fun at the Harris household. Grandpa Fritz, Elizabeth, Katharin and Anna came over for dinner on Christmas Eve. They were nice enough to bring beautiful Christmas sweaters for everyone. We all modeled our new sweaters and wore them for dinner.

I attempted to bake a Ginger-Brandy cheesecake. Note the "arty" arrangement of candied ginger on top.

We went to Solon to see Tobi, Craig, and family. Henry met Evelyn and Brian Bo (pictured) for the first time. They are Mary, Tobi's sister's children.

Henry and Gus are best buddies. Henry likes to roll across the living room floor, and Gus is usually lying there with him. They get along great.

6 Months

Well into his sixth month of life, Henry continues to grow and thrive. He has one sharp little tooth, and his second tooth is on the way. He is learning new skills every day. His favorite thing to do at the moment is GRAB! He grabs noses, hair, anything we walk past, Gus' tail...you name it!

His palate has expanded as well. He loves apples and oatmeal, sweet potatoes, apple/prune juice, and bananas. He has also tried Cheerios a few times, but is still a little confused by them.

The big event of the last month was the wedding of Nona and Poppa. Everyone was there, and it was so much fun! Henry and Paige looked cute in their little matching outfits Nona made them. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Christmas is in one week, and the Harris household is ready. The Christmas tree is up and decorated, presents are wrapped, menus are planned, and Mark even made Christmas cookies. A visit to Santa is planned for Saturday.

Henry had his sixth month appointment last week. Current stats:
Weight: 21 lbs 15oz (97th percentile)
Height: 27 1/4 inches (75th percentile)

New and Exciting Skills

Henry has ventured into the land of eating solid foods. By "solid", we mean rice cereal or smashed up bananas. Not really very solid. He likes the rice cereal but really does not care for bananas. Avocados are next on our list. He is getting the hang of the spoon, and likes to hold his own spoon to "help".

Other exciting news: Henry is now rolling over. He only goes from his back to his front (and only to the left), but it is progress! He has also discovered his toes and loves to grab them, especially when getting his diaper changed.

Henry was a little cow for Halloween. Very cute!

Henry is creeping up on 5 months. He is a smiley, happy little guy who sleeps 10 hours at night. Yes, we are spoiled. Good eater, good sleeper, laughs and smiles all day long....he couldn't be more fun! We have been busy with visitors the last few weeks. First, Brandi and cousin Paige were in Iowa City for two weeks, so Henry and Paige got to spend some quality time together. They played, went on walks, went to the Iowa Homecoming Parade, and even had their picture taken together at Sears. Fun times! We miss those guys.

Then Grandma Wendy and Grandpa Doug arrived from England for two weeks. They left yesterday and the house seems very quiet. They were a big help and it was wonderful having them here. Henry was baptized while they were here, and wore a beautiful little outfit Grandma Cherie made. It was perfect!

Today Henry had his 4 1/2 month doctor visit. Here are the current stats:
Weight: 18 lbs 10 oz.
Length: 26 inches
95th percentile in weight
75th percentile in length
Go Henry! His doctor said that he is almost off the chart! Do we have a future linebacker or sumo wrestler?

Almost 4 months

It's hard to believe that Henry is almost 4 months old! He is growing by the day (wearing 6 month clothes - and some of them are tight!). He is getting into more of a routine, where he goes to bed between 8 and 9pm and *usually* sleeps until 7 or 8am. Mom and Dad like this. However, he is not taking naps very consistently, and can sometimes go the whole day with only 1-2 catnaps. Needless to say, this makes for a very grumpy boy by 7pm.

Henry met Kelly last week, and was a perfect boy when we went out to lunch at the Atlas. He slept the whole time, and had waitresses fawning over him.
Brandi and Paige are here for two weeks, and we are very excited! Henry and Paige met for the first time today. Paige was very sweet and brought Henry lots of toys, flowers, and kisses. She was very gentle with him. No pictures of the two of them together yet, but I'm sure we will get some soon.

Henry's new favorite activity is putting his hands in his mouth. It is rare to find him without several fingers or even his whole fist in his mouth! Here are some pictures of Henry in his cute Iowa t-shirt Kelly got him. He's "doing the wave" on the right. Go Hawks!

Halloween is quickly approaching, and Henry is getting into the spirit already. Here is my little pumpkin!

3 Months

Henry is 3 months old as of yesterday. He has grown a lot! He has started sucking his fingers and thumbs, which he enjoys quite a bit. He is also possibly getting a tooth, but we are not sure about that yet. Henry is getting rounder by the day :)

Henry would like to send a big birthday hug out to Grandma Wendy.....we miss you!

Mum started school this week.....busy classes, including an advanced physiology class and a health promotion class. She also went back to work, so life is a little hectic around the Harris household. Luckily Auntie Nellie has been in town and has been very helpful. She has babysat Henry a few times, helped clean, and brought Mum lots of much-needed coffee! Yay for Auntie Nellie! Henry is excited to spend some time with Uncle Will (aka Jimmy Wallet), since he is now attending law school in Iowa City. You go, Jimmy!

Henry has been very busy the past few weeks, with a trip on an airplane to Florida to visit Aunt Lydia and Uncle Brody, a visit to Epcot, a doctor's check-up, and just learning to sleep through most of the night. We have started introducing "bedtime", which means getting the little guy to bed between 8 and 9pm (sometimes it is a bit later). It is going surprisingly well. He usually just goes right to sleep and doesn't wake up until 4ish (today he didn't wake up until 6:15 - hooray!).

Flying with a baby was easy. It helped to have Grandma Cherie along to help with the bags and to take a turn holding Henry on the plane. We felt like we were traveling with a celebrity because we got to go through security without waiting, boarded the plane first, and people were just very helpful everywhere we went.

Mom goes back to work tomorrow, so Henry will be spending some time with Grandma Cherie and Grandma Elizabeth over the next two weeks. Lots of changes coming up!

Babies 'n BBQ

Yesterday we went to a Babies 'n BBQ party at our friends house. For some reason they know 8 or 9 couples with new babies (all under 6 months of age and all first born). They thought it would be fun to have all of the parents and babies over for a BBQ.

Wow, Henry is 8 weeks old already! Time flies when you are sleep deprived. He is growing like a weed and has grown out of all of his newborn size clothes. He is almost ready for size 2 diapers, also. It's hard to keep up with this guy!

Chicago!

On Monday Henry, Nona, and Mommy took a quick trip into Chicago to visit Nellie. It was a short trip, but nice to see her. Nellie's apartment is beautiful and she lives in Old Town which seems to be a fun and safe neighborhood. She is looking forward to her month scuba diving in Honduras after she rocks her bar exam. You can do it, Nellie!

Henry is an old pro at car trips by now (after the 9 hour journey to and from Minnesota). We only had to pull over twice on the way back to reinsert the pacifier. On Wednesday night he slept for six hours in a row, which made his mom very happy! Of course, he was back to his usual routine of getting up every 3-4 hours by Thursday night :).

Here is Henry with Anna and Katharin, his neighborhood babysitters (as well as aunties!). Katharin has taken a babysitting course at Mercy Hospital and is a natural with kids. Anna is also interested in taking the babysitting course, and we are excited to have both girls nearby!

Fourth of July

Henry survived his first trip to Long Lake. He was a rock star during the 9 hour drive. It helped to have Grandma Wendy riding along in the back seat next to him giving him his pacifier when necessary. We managed to stop just 2 times each way for feeding/changing/ect. Henry got to meet many people for the first time during the trip, including Aunt Lydia, Uncle Brody and Uncle Will. Henry went to his first forth of July lobster boil, and slept the whole time on Aunt Terri's lap. This was a week of firsts: he also got his first little cold and worried his parents during a night of sniffles. He (and his parents) survived :).

Grandma Wendy has been visiting from Stratford-upon-Avon for the last few weeks. She goes home on Sunday and we will certainly miss her. She has been enjoying spending time with Henry and has been a great help to have around.

Henry is becoming quite the traveler: next trip is to Chicago to visit Aunt Nellie, then later in the month we are going to Florida to visit Aunt Lydia. Fun times! Henry and Mommy at the cabin.

1 Month Old!

Wow, time flies! Henry is one month old as of yesterday. He is smiling a lot now (we have yet to get a picture of his smile but will keep trying!) and sleeping a little longer at night. He is getting chubbier by the day and some of his newborn clothes are getting a little tight. Henry has been going on lots of walks with his mom and Grandma Cherie, has been to the library twice, and will hopefully attend his first softball game tonight (if it is not raining). Grandma Wendy from England is arriving on Sunday, and we are all excited to see her!

First Father's Day

It has been a busy week! Henry met Auntie Nellie last weekend, and helped her study for the bar exam. She has been working hard in Chicago getting ready for the big test - we are looking forward to her being done with it so she can do something besides study!

The week was spent going on walks with Grandma Cherie, a trip to the library, and trying to figure out which bridges were still open through Iowa City (most have been closed due to major flooding).

Henry spent his first father's day with his daddy over at Grandma Cherie and Grandpa Greg's house. They made lots of good food, and Grandpa Fritz and Grandma Elizabeth joined us for dinner. Henry is getting bigger by the day, loves to snuggle and is starting to smile. His mom and dad think he's pretty great!

Henry arrived at 7:32am on May 27th. He weighed 7lbs 8.6oz and was two weeks early. He may have been a very big boy if he was born on time! His mama was very proud of his perfect 10 apgar scores. Go Henry!

We came home from the hospital two days later, but had to spend another night at Mercy Hospital because of Henry's "deep dark island tan" aka jaundice. The phototherapy helped a little, but Henry's pediatrician says that he has breastmilk jaundice and that it can last up to six weeks.

Henry is getting adjusted to being home, and sleeps 3-4 hours at night. He is a very good little boy, and likes to go on walks and car rides. He will be going on his first trip up to Minnesota in a few weeks.
